A farmer came to visit us at our school. She brought a hen, a rooster and chicks. The rooster was a red freedom ranger. The hens were a Cuckoo Maran and a Buff Cochin (she had feathers on her feet). The chicks were Araucana (Easter egg chickens that lay blue/green eggs), Brahma, and Golden Laced Wyandotte. We learned that the rooster protects the hen and the hen protects the eggs.
We learned the parts of a chicken. She showed us the flight feathers. She showed us the waddle. She showed us the comb and the beak. She showed us the different kinds of eggs that the different hens lay. The farmer then gave us our eggs and we put them in the incubator.
All About Our Eggs We have 7 light brown eggs, 16 dark brown eggs and 1 bluish greenish egg. We have 24 eggs total in our incubator. Some of the eggs have dark brown spots. This is how we will take care of our eggs: - we will keep them in the incubator - we will keep them warm - we will keep the temperature at 99.5 - we will add water to keep moisture in the incubator
